This is rather exciting - my own blog - even if I don't have a clue as what I am doing.

This site reflects the thoughts of middle aged ex-U.S. Army infantry officer and now PhD candidate in medieval history, particularly economic history, although my studies have encompassed the history of Western Civilization (of which I am an unapologetic champion) and Christendom (of which I am a commited member - although a Protestant, but in a tradition of Calvinist Reform theology with which I am about 90% in agreement.)

I am also a very conservative American citizen, who is more stridently partisan in thought and action than I suspect a good member of Christendom ought to be.

So I hope to be a small but occasionally useful member of the swelling army of conservative internet pajama philosphes.

In doing so I have some pet subjects, thankfully for anyone who might chance on this site, not about Charlemagne.

They are a Christian/conservative view of social justice - a term which the Left has misappropriated, but does not understand and generally uses to merely give it the appearance of the moral high ground. I wish to reclaim it both for orthodox Christian thought and as a basis for a type of Conservative social critique and set of policy prescriptions.

Trying to find some common ground between the advocates of conservatism as political philosophy - the Jonah Goldbergs of the Right (and I mean that as a compliment), the Libertarians (amongst whom I have found varying degrees of disagreement (in some cases bordering on antipathy) and 'the religious right'/'value conservatives'/'social conservatives' in a positive way within the conservative Community. I might add that I think that this kind of pigeonholing conservatives into litte clusters of potentially hostile views is often counter-productive since I suspect that there are huge areas of agreement that get lost in the unhelpfully heated polemics about things like ID.

An interest in things military. I was a soldier for most of my life, and I see a lot of foolishness out there at could use some professional insight (even if it is becoming increasingly dated in terms of certain technical issues).

I might put my oar in the water on ID - John Derbyshire, be afraid, be very afraid - and on church state issues and on the defense of Western Civilization - its values, institutions, contributions and accomplishments vis a vis to other cultures; about which it seems only a highly structured formal academic study of it can blind one to its overwhelmingly positive accomplishments.

And, as I said at the outset, I am a partisan political Conservative - so, when the 'aux la barricades' is sounded in the conservative blogosphere, I hope to be at my post.
